Smoky Eye Shadow Tutorial

1 Dot the tip of your index finger with liquid foundation or concealer. Swipe the makeup over your eyelid to prep eyes for a sexy and smoky shadow application.

2 Using a medium-sized eyeshadow brush, apply a neutral shadow in bronze, brown, or beige over your entire lid to create a soft glow around the eyes.

3 Trace the upper lash line from the inner corner to the outer with a jet black or charcoal gray eyeliner pencil. Smudge the liner with your fingertips or a cotton swab to fatten your top lashes. Blend the neutral shade of shadow and the eyeliner with a firm-bristled eyeshadow brush.

4 Apply a green, charcoal gray or brown shadow into the crease of the eye. To lighten the eyes and make them pop, add a white or silver powdery shadow in the inner corner of the eyes, using the firm-bristled eyeshadow brush.

5 To make your eyes sparkle, blend the liner and the two shades of shadow from the crease down to the lash line. Finish this universally flattering smoky eye with two coats of black mascara. The result: an eye-popping look for evening.

Evening Shimmer Eye Shadow Tutorial

1 Using a medium eyeshadow brush, sweep a wide band of metallic gold, silver, or green shimmer along the eyelid from the inner corner to the outer corner of the eye.

2Deposit a charcoal gray or dark-brown shadow from the crease to the upper lash line with your medium shadow brush. Use this shade to contour the eye and balance the shimmer shade. Blend both shadows well with a large blush brush.

3Highlight the eyes with a vanilla or taupe shadow. Place the shadow underneath your brow bone and in the inside corners of the eyes with a firm-bristled eyeshadow brush to brighten your eyes for evening.

4Line your upper lash line with a chocolate brown or black liner. Using your blush brush, blend the liner and eyeshadow shades from the crease to the lash line. Glide on a few coats of mascara for a touch of evening and radiance.

Evening Eye Makeup Do’s and Don’ts

  • To balance a bold evening eye, wear a nude lipstick and an understated cheek color.
  •  If a black or charcoal gray eye pencil is too dark for your blue eyes, try a brown or taupe shade instead.
  • For brown eyes, dark green eyeliner is an appropriate black liner alternative.
