Where to Spray Perfume: 7 Scentsational Tips to Make It Last

where to spray perfume

Like a killer red lip, a well-arched brow and a mascara that’ll fatten lashes in an instant, the perfect perfume leaves a lasting beauty impression in one subtle sniff.

But how do you apply your signature scent so that its lasts all day long?

Knowing exactly where on your body to spritz and spray your fave fragrance is the best way to make sure your scents lasts from your morning coffee until your after-work cocktails.

Where to Place Fragrance

7 best places to spray perfume on your body to make it last all day long

Dab, spritz or spray your perfumes onto pulse points behind the ears, knees, across the belly button and on wrists, neck, and ankles.

Why?

Your pulse points generate more heat and allow the fragrance to mix with your body’s chemistry and stay put on your skin.

The best places to apply perfume on your body are:

  1. Wrists – Pat, your wrist together gently; but don’t rub. Yes, rubbing your wrists together warms the skin, but it causes the fragrance to evaporate faster than it should.
  2. Behind the Ears and on the Neck. Remember to spray your perfume up high so that the scent envelopes you immediately.
  3. Knees and Elbows -Don’t neglect the back of your knees and your inner elbows. Up the staying power of your scent by spraying it in the bend of your elbows and knees.
  4. Hair – Spray your hairbrush first, then brush through dry strands to apply the scent. The oils in hair retain scent but do not spray the scent directly on your tresses. Alcohol buildup can fade hair color or dry out your strands. If the product is a hair mist, specifically formulated for hair – and with little to no alcohol — you can spray it directly onto your hair.
  5. Midriff and Ankles -Graze your belly button and tap fragrance lightly behind the ears. As the perfume evaporates, it rises from the bottom up, so you can smell it all day.

1 Layer on fragrance if you want it to last.  Use a perfumed body wash in the shower and pair it with a few dabs of concentrated Eau de parfum on your pulse points. Hold the fragrance 5 to 7 inches away from your body to mist your pulse points, without dousing your skin with fragrance.

2 Remember: Fragrance evaporates faster on dry skin, so moisturize, moisturize and moisturize before spritzing. So it’s best to apply to the skin after you are well-moisturized. The oils in the body lotion helps to lock in fragrance molecules to make the scent last longer.

3 Mix a scented body lotion with your signature scent. To make the scent last longer, rub on a lightly-scented body lotion and layer it with spritzes of an eau de toilette at the neck, midriff, wrists, and ankles.  Also, a pea-sized swipe of Vaseline on your pulse points is another tip to make your scent last for hours and hours.

4 Switch up your fragrances to prevent scent desensitization. If you wear the same fragrance daily, over time, your nose will become familiar with the smell, and you’ll have to spray twice as much to be able to smell the scent.

To avoid scent overkill, rotate two to three scents in your perfume wardrobe.

5 You don’t have to take a shower if you’ve doused yourself with too much cologne. Which hazel, unscented baby wipes and alcohol swiped on the wrists and other areas on your body will remove even oil-based formulations.

6 Know your fragrance types: If you want your fragrance to last from am to pm, be aware that not all scents are created equal. To make your scent last, choose Eau de parfums and parfums over Eau de toilettes and body splashes.

Body splashes and toilettes are not as concentrated as the other liquids, and unless you reapply them during the day, they will fade.

7 Store your fragrance strategically. To extend the life of your favorite scent, stash it in a cool, dark place away from fluctuating temps. That’s why putting it in the refrigerator — away from the butter, cream cheese, and other food that may absorb strong scents quickly– is ideal.

But if you don’t want to mix your perfumes with your eggs and other edibles, place it in a dark spot in your closet — or in the bathroom medicine cabinet.
